Maximum Flexibility

With Maximum Flexibility, we give travellers who book new reservations through 31 December 2020, the option to change their travel dates or cancel their rail holiday up to 5 days prior to departure without incurring any change or cancellation fees. Any existing reservations can be rescheduled up to 5 days prior to departure without incurring any change or cancellation fees.

If the future date of travel is unknown at the time of the change or cancellation, customers will receive a refund in the form of a Refund Credit Note. The Refund Credit Note will be banked, financially protected, and can be used for travel with any of our family of brands within 24 months of the date of issue. Currently, you must book your travel by 31 March 2021, which may be subject to change by the Government authorities.

*Additional restrictions may apply for any rail vacation that includes a cruise component.

What steps are being taken to ensure safe social distancing?

We want to keep you informed about the measures Amtrak is taking to help protect our customers and their employees, including:

• New Facial Covering Policy. For your safety and the safety of our employees, Amtrak is now requiring all customers to wear a facial covering over their nose and mouth. Amtrak customer-facing employees are also required to wear facial coverings. The CDC recommends the use of facial coverings to slow the spread of the virus and prevent transmission.

• Physical Distancing. To maintain CDC recommendations for physical distancing on board our trains, we are limiting bookings to 50% capacity. In addition, signage has been added in our stations to help travellers maintain safe distances in highly trafficked areas. We have also installed transparent protective barriers at many station ticket counters across our network.

• Enhanced Cleaning Protocols. We have increased the frequency of cleaning services on board trains and at our stations. In addition to steam cleaning the carpets, the trains are sanitized with misting machines daily before entering service.

• Cashless Service. For the safety of our customers and employees, we are temporarily accepting cashless payments only, in stations and on trains.

What flexibility do we have when travelling with Amtrak Vacations?

The safety and security of our guests is our top priority. Given the current UK and foreign government national emergencies and circumstances beyond our control we have revised our terms and conditions. Customers booking travel during this period will receive maximum flexibility to travel to any destination, on any date, or length of trip with the option to reschedule or cancel their trip up to 5 days prior to departure without any change or cancellation fees.

How far in advance can I book my Amtrak Vacations holiday?

With Amtrak Vacations, most of our holidays can be booked up to 24 months in advance.  To make a booking, please call Amtrak Vacations at 020 3327 3500.

How do I make a booking?

Call Amtrak Vacations to speak with one of our knowledgeable Rail Experts and book your perfect holiday by train. Alternatively, visit or call your local travel agent.

What information do you require at the time of booking?

All passenger first and last names, and all dates of birth, are required at the time of booking.

If your holiday includes a flight your passport details will be required. Certain train providers will also require this information. Your Travel Consultant will inform you if this is the case for your holiday.

We recommend that you contact the Embassy of the destination(s) your are travelling to for any visa requirements prior to making a booking with us. Is sightseeing included in the Amtrak Vacations packages?

Yes, sightseeing is included on all our holidays. Details are listed within the package page, on the Package Details and Itinerary tabs.

Can I add on additional sightseeing activities and/or additional hotel nights to one of your rail holidays?

Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing rail vacation packages we offer. When you speak with one of our Rail Experts, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your holiday as you wish. Additional charges may apply

Can I take a specific rail holiday that you offer in reverse order?

Yes! On most of our holiday packages we also offer a reverse version. Please call and speak with one of our Rail Experts for more details on the specific holiday you’re interested in.

What are the sleeper accommodations on the train like?

Amtrak trains travelling on long-distance routes typically use either two-level Superliner or one-level Viewliner trains. Both types of trains include bedrooms arranged in various configurations as well as private and public bathrooms and showers. Both Roomette and Bedroom’s provide sleeping accommodations.

A Roomette is designed for one or two passengers, with comfortable reclining seats on either side of a sweeping picture window. At night, the seats convert to a bed and an upper berth is lowered down from the ceiling. There are several sinks, toilets and showers shared between yourself and the other passengers booking Roomettes aboard the train.

A Bedroom is ideal for two passengers. The bedroom offers a private, self-enclosed toilet and shower in the cabin. Like the Roomette, the Bedroom offers comfortable reclining seats on either side of a panoramic picture window. At night, the seats convert to a bed, and an upper berth with its own picture window folds out from the upper wall.

 

Are meals included with my sleeping accommodations or any other perks?

Yes, all meals on-board the train are included with the purchase of sleeping accommodations aboard the train as well as several other perks including: A picture window, showers and toilets, electrical outlets, climate control, individual reading lights, garment rack, fold down table, fresh towels and bed linens, personal service (turn-down, coffee, make-up bed) and bottled water.

Do you offer itineraries for solo travellers?

Absolutely! Our pricing on our website is based on double occupancy, for individual traveller pricing, please give us a call and one of our rail experts can assist you!

Do I need travel insurance?

It is a condition of booking with us that you have adequate travel insurance to cover your trip.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

We can provide special menu selections on most trains with 72-hour advance notice. We require 24-hour advance notice for Acela Express First Class service. You do not need to provide advance notice for vegetarian meals.

How long before the train departs should I be at the station?

The recommended arrival time for each station varies, but plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure. If you need help with your luggage, tickets or any other services, or if you are departing from a large or busy station, we recommend you arrive at the station even earlier. To confirm your train will be arriving on time, please call 1-800-USA-RAIL.

Is there food on the train?

Yes, most trains offer one or more dining options ranging from casual dining to full sit-down meals. Roomette and Bedroom accommodations INCLUDE all meals on the trains (gratuities are not included).

How much luggage can I bring?

In general, each passenger is allowed two carry-on bags, each weighing less than 23 kg and measuring less than 70 x 55 x 35 cm, free of charge.

If your origin and destination stations offer checked baggage service, each passenger can check up to four bags. The first two of these will be free of charge, and the second two charged at $20 per bag.  Bags must weigh no more than 23kg and measure no more than 70 x 55 x 35 cm.

Where are your hotels located?

All of our hotels are centrally located within each city we visit. Most are within a short distance of the Amtrak station and local sights.

Are transfers to and from the port included on Rail & Sail packages?

Yes. On all Rail and Sail package holidays, you will have included transfers to the port from your hotel and then from the port to either a local hotel, the Amtrak station or the airport (based upon your itinerary).

Are transfers included to and from the hotel and train station on your packages?

At Amtrak Vacations we pride ourselves on the fact that our hotels are city center locations so they are close to the Train Station. We include transfers between the airport and your hotel in our flight inclusive packages.

When will I receive my travel documents?

After we receive full payment, travel documents will be mailed to you approximately 21 days prior to your departure.

How do I stay 'Travel Aware'?

Wherever you’re going, it’s important to prepare before you go. Stay healthy and safe abroad by staying aware.

Travel advice can change so ensure that you check for updates regularly. Both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the NHS have up-to-date advice on staying safe and healthy abroad.

To prepare for these slight restrictions, we advise downloading necessary large files prior to boarding the train.
